(Megalaima haemacephala) 赤胸拟䴕
Size: 15 cm
Unmistakable; note yellow head pattern and streaked under parts; the smallest barbet.
A resonate tonk, tonk, 1 to 2 times per second, for minutes at time.
Found in open woodlands and forest edges, never in closed forest. It can be seen in gardens and parks and occasionally in mangroves. It visits trees with small fruits and berries, comes quite low to the ground. Calls incessantly from a top branch, often late in the afternoon. The nest is built in a hole in a dead branch.
Common resident and breeder throughout Singapore.

Wow - what an amazing bird! I wonder if you can get any better shots of it? The pose is a bit weird. It seems to like to come down trees upside down, like the nuthatch we see in the USA.
