ไม้ต้นขนาดเล็ก สูงได้ประมาณ 5 ม. ใบเดี่ยว เรียงสลับ รูปรีหรือรูปขอบขนาน ยาว7-15 ซม. ปลายใบแหลมหรือแหลมยาว โคนใบแหลมหรือมน แผ่นใบเป็นมันวาวทั้งสองด้าน เส้นแขนงใบข้างละ 7-9 เส้น ก้านใบยาวได้ประมาณ 5 มม. ดอกออกเดี่ยว ๆ ตรงข้ามใบใกล้ปลายกิ่ง สีเหลืองนวลหรือเข้ม มีกลิ่นหอม ดอกบานเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 2.5-3 เซนติเมตร ก้านดอกยาวประมาณ 5 มม. กลีบเลี้ยง 3 กลีบ ยาวประมาณ 2-3 มม. กลีบดอก 6 กลีบ เรียง 2 ชั้น ชั้นนอกรูปไข่ ยาว 1.5-2 ซม. กลีบชั้นในรูปไข่กลับ โคนเรียวเป็นก้านกลีบ สั้นกว่ากลีบวงนอกเล็กน้อย ปลายเรียงจรดกันคล้ายกระเช้า ขอบและเส้นกลางกลีบเป็นสันนูน มีลายเส้นสีม่วงแดงบนกลีบ เกสรเพศผู้จำนวนมาก ปลายมีรยางค์สั้นๆ ผลแบบผลกลุ่ม ก้านช่อยาว 1-1.5 ซม. ผลย่อยจำนวนมาก รูปทรงกระบอก คอดตามเมล็ด ผลอ่อนสีนวล สุกสีแดงอมส้ม กลายมีเขตกระจายพันธุ์แคบๆ พบเฉพาะในพม่า คาบสมุทรมลายู และภาคตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ของไทยแถบจังหวัดเพชรบุรีและประจวบคีรีขันธุ์ ขึ้นตามป่าดิบแล้ง ระดับความสูงไม่เกิน 700 เมตร
