This stunning male Junonia hierta fluttered onto a dried flower arrangement in my lounge. I suspect that it may be quite a rare specimen in Chiang Rai: I have not seen another in the past year (or ever for that matter); I couldn't find pictures of it in any of the Thailand Butterfly sites; and its preferred habitat is stated as "open scrub and grassland". There's not much of that around here, unless rice paddies fall into that category .... |
