Rose-Ringed Parakeet
(Psittacula krameri) 红领绿鹦鹉
Size: 42 cm
Description:
The most well known parakeet. It has a grass green body with long bluish tailed and red bill. Male has black and pink malar stripes and collar after third year. Female lacks these. No shoulder patches.
Voice:
Very noisy in flight and at rest. A loud shrill keeak, often repeated. It’s also conversational murmuring between pairs.
Habits:
Occurs wherever there are trees. Particularly favours city parks, gardens and cultivations where huge flocks can seriously damaged fruits, vegetables and grain crops. Thousands gather at grain silos and at favoured city roosts. Although the most popular cage-bird in the region, it remain abundant. It pairs very affectionate. It nests in trees hole, and walls and often enlarging an existing site.
