Stinkbug (Hemiptera Tessaratomidae)
Order: Heteroptera
Family: Tessaratomidae

The Tessaratomidae are a (very close to) pentatomoid family found mostly in the tropics of the Eastern Hemisphere, with only a few species occurring in the Western Hemisphere (Piezosternum Amyot & Serville occurs in the Neotropics).

The family comprises 49 genera and about 235 species worldwide (Rolston et al. 1993). All members in this family look like pentatomid except they are large and with very small head.

Diagnosis for 'TESSARATOMIDAE'
Tessaratomids are large to very large, ovoid to elliptical bugs. The head is laterally keeled and often very small relative to the overall body size. The bucculae are very short. The antennae are 4 or 5-segmented. The labium is short, reaching the apices of the fore coxae. The scutellum is triangular and does not cover the corium. The veins of the membrane are not reticulate. The hind wings have a hamus. The external efferent system of the metathoracic gland is reduced. The tarsi are either 2 or 3-segmented. The abdominal spiracle of sternum II is fully exposed in most species. The aedeagus has up to four pairs of conjunctival processes. The larvae have dorsal abdominal glands between terga III/IV, IV/V and V/VI. (Slater 1982; Schuh & Slater 1995; Sinclair 2000a)

Length was about 3.6 cm / 1.4 inches

Hallo Jitti,
extremely sharp picture of the bug including surface, left side legs and antennae. The colours are brilliant. The non-natural background is not so nice, on the other hand it is not disturbing allowing to see clearly the outlines of the bug.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello JC,
I'm amazed by the quality of details and colours in this capture!
In spite of flash use the reflex is close to zero...
You also do a fine piece of work in identifying and describing your subjects!

La macro es excelente Jitti por su nitidez y por su color, personalmente no me agrada el fondo de granito o concreto.
Buen uso del flash, sin reflejos exagerados.
Saludos... Ricardo

Hi Jitti
This is one beautiful stinker and it is very well captured and presented in this superb macro shot.
The colours are very natural, the details are absolutely crystal clear as one can even see the textures of its body, and the exposure (with the fill-in flash) was very well controlled.
Excellent shot and TFS.

very close, very sharp and clear too Jitti! Wonderful shot, tfs

Hi Jitti,
An excellent macro! Fillflash exposure was very good here. Nice colors and sharp detail. Nice intricate detail and textures shown in this guy. Well done on the notes too.

Hello Jitti!
I'm not a big fan of man made backgrounds in insect shots, but this one is not too distracting becuse of its neutral tonality. The bug itself is tack sharp with excellent details and photographed from a good POV. Congratulations,

Hi Jitti!
A perfect close up of this stinkbug! I think we have some of them in Europe, but not so large and brightly colored as your champion. Exc. pov!
