A rarity from Costa Rica:
I found this moth in the La Selva forest at night in pouring rain: Mania (=Nothus) lunus (L.), a member of the neotropical family of Sematuridae. That is a first for TN, even the family has not been presented before. I cannot find much information on the net about this nocturnal or crepuscular species. There is a report from 2001 that larvae have been reared in Costa Rica, they seem to be living on Pentaclethra macroloba (Mimosoideae) and on Syzygium longifolium (Myrtaceae).
The picture had to be worked at in PS mainly to remove reflections due to the inbuilt flash. |

This is a gem of a picture of a rare species from Costa Rica, Dietrich. The moth is well placed on a leaf. Great composition too.
