I dedicate this photo to Bayram Gocmen (Boreocypriensis) who did a lot of work for me. He has found the ID of this Lizard and send me a lot of information and beautiful photos of this and other Reptiles.
It’s a new species on TN.

This photo is made in Costa Rica in the year 2000 with my old camera Nikon F50. I used my flash in total darkness. In that time I only made slides. So this one is scanned.

Ameiva leptophrys (Whip-tailed Lizard) Large; diurnal; insectivorous; abundant and more restricted to forest habitats, especially along forest trails and near small
light gaps, than other species of Ameiva; known from lowland evergreen forest of Golfo Dulce area of Costa Rica and adjacent western Panama to western
Colombia.

Wow, superb shot of lizard, the colours are fantastic. It is an errie picture, dark and colourful at once. Very well captured, I like the unreal feeling of it, underground and dark... with wild creatures running at night! Thank you,

Francine

Hello Peter,
It's always thrilling to see the first ones posted in TN. Excellent picture taken with good sharpness, details and POV that clearly shows its markings. Thanks for the share,
Regards,
Smitha

A beautiful representation of this fine (and a little fat) lizard from a good POV Peter which shows many identifying details, in spite of its being a scanned dia, i.e., have lost a considerable amount of resolution in the process. I wouldn't think of contradicting Bayram on such matters, but I thought, up to now, that "Whip-tailed Lizards" were known only under the generic name "Cnemidophorus"...
Regards,
Mehmet

Hi Peter,

A wonderful dedication to Bayram! He has taught me all I know about snakes, lizareds and geckos. This lizard is amazing for a scanned shot from a slide. Wonderful colors and details. His skin is beautiful with fascinating markings.

Hello Peter,
Excellent capture of a Whip-tailed Lizard that has lost part of the reason for its name, the scanned result being of very high quality. Nice sharpness and detail and good use of flash.
Thanks for sharing this one,
Ivan

Hi Peter,

I really like the light here, which hive the image a lot of atmosphere. I really like the colours too, with the monotone background broken only the the colour on the leaf. Nice composition too.

Mike

Interesante imagen Peter en la que se aprecia la "decoración" que luce este lagarto.
Buenos resultados para ser una imagen escaneada.
Saludos, JL.
