Discovering Costa Rica:
I tried my hand for the first time on birds with a new 600 mm-equivalent lens. I knew it would be difficult. In Costa Rica you find all the birds you ever dreamed of right at your doorsteps. It was no surprise then that TN has already has a rich and excellent documentation on Costa Rican wildlife. I start my contribution with an endemit :
The Collared Redstart (Myoborus torquatus; Candelita collareja; Halsband-Waldsänger; Paruline ceinturée) "is a brightly colored, highly animated warbler (Parulidae) of Central American mountains. Restricted to highland forests in Costa Rica and Panama above 1500 meters, the species is typically found foraging near the ground by fanning its high-contrast tail and flushing insects from vegetation and leaf litter" (cit. Cornell Lab of Ornithology)
The shot was taken in the Parque nacional Los Quetzales at 2'200 m altitude. |

Hi Dietrich,i wish to do a trip in Costarica me too one day,this is surely a paradise for the birds but for the butterlies too. And your first pic from there is a great shot,lovely capture of this tiny redstart made in an excellent quality despite the distance and the difficult light,very well done!
