(unranked): Eudicots

(unranked): Asterids

Order: Gentianales

Family: Apocynaceae

Genus: Allamanda

Allamanda, also known as Yellow Bell, Golden Trumpet or Buttercup Flower, is a genus of tropical shrubs or vines belonging to the dogbane family (Apocynaceae).
The genus Alamanda is native to South and Central America. Their year-round production of large, bright flowers have made the Allamanda popular ornamentals.
A woody, evergreen shrub with vigorous growth, Allamanda may reach a free-standing height of 2 metres or more. The leathery leaves are lancelike, pointed, and may either be opposite or in whorls of three or four. The yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers are 5-7.5 centimetres in diameter; cultivated forms tend towards larger blooms which may also be white, purple, pink or orange in colour. Their scent may be described as delicate and fruity.
In the wild, Allamanda grow along riverbanks and other open, sunny areas with adequate rainfall and perpetually moist substrate. The plants do not tolerate shade, salty or alkaline soils; they are highly sensitive to frost. Allamanda are otherwise undemanding and with appropriate conditions will grow rapidly, from 1-3 metres annually. The seed capsules are oval and prickly; cultivated forms rarely produce seeds, but Allamanda are easily propagated from cuttings. Discarded cuttings are quick to take root.
Allamanda have become naturalized throughout the tropics; they may be seen in roadside ditches, abandoned yards and dumps. As a controlling measure, cutting is ineffecive with Allamanda and will lead to vigorous coppicing. Owing to its fast growth, Allamanda has been introduced widely where it is used as a groundcover or for hedges and screens. In some areas Allamanda are an invasive species, notably Allamanda cathartica in Queensland, Australia.
Allamanda cathartica is also notable for its medicinal properties: all parts of the plant contain allamandin, a toxic iridoid lactone. The leaves, roots and flowers may be used in the preparation of a powerful cathartic (hence the name); the milky sap is also known to possess antibacterial and possibly anticancer properties. Gardeners exposed to the sap will develop rashes, itch, and blisters.
The genus name Allamanda derives from Dr. Frederich Allamanda (1735-1803), a Swiss botanist of the late 18th century.
The City of Canóvanas in the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico, has named the Allamanda Carthica (Yellow Bell) it's official flower/plant due to the vast amount of these thru the entire city and it's rivers. It's also in their seal and downtown plaza.

Classificazione, provenienza e descrizione

Genere: Allamanda.
Famiglia: Apocinaceae.

Hello Luciano,
Hope you'll be doing fine and the weather in your part of the world will be fine. I have noticed that friends do not like to comment on those flowers, plants and insects which are quite common in their part of the world whether wild or otherwise and which are either new and exotic in ours. This photo has gone without comments after 39 views and I cannot find the reason behind this. I can clearly see that it is wondrous shot, the tone of the colours is superb, the focus is sharp, background is dark and it was taken in sunny conditions. I know also comments and points are no big deal and what matters most is the way we share things here. But.....and I'll keep silent here. Liked this photo a lot and thank you for sharing it and also for your encouragement brother....take care...warmest regards/Abid

Hello Luciano.
This is really a beautiful shot. I think your composition and framing are perfect here. Nice quality light and a spot on exposure have rendered some beautiful colors. Detail is sharp, and your control on the DOF was perfect. Nice OOF backround.
Best regards Siggi

Ciao Luciano,
Grazie e complimenti
Buona Domenica
Ciao Maurizio

What a lovely yellow beauty!
Very sharp details!

Hallo Luciano
This beautiful Allamanda cathartica has such a cheerful and sunny appearance and a feeling of joy that surrounds it, that it makes me happy to look at it. Having said that I want to thank you for the note you left on one of my previous postings about the people of Trek Nature loving me. I found it very special, just as I find this gorgeous flower with its big petals special and very pleasing to the eye. Thanks for sharing this sunny and bright image with great detail and clarity. Best regards.
Ps.Your spontaneous personality is very contagious and do not go unnoticed. Thanks for your concern with regard to my recovery. I am doing fine after the operation although I feel handicapped with all the bandages and plasters around my foot. I still have to wear it until the 22nd of January. The birds singing outside in the garden drives me crazy and I long to go outside to do some photographing, but that will just have to wait and until then I'll share the images from the KNP with everybody.

Bonjour Luciano,

Bella compo stretta.

another good image from you and this time an yellow flower with good pov and details.
Fine warm colours.

Hi Luciano,

You are bringing back memories of my childhood. I haven't seen a buttercup in years. A wonderful macro of this trio against the beautiful leaves. Colors and details are magnificent. I love how we can look deep into the flower. Excellent composition and your frame is lovely.

bonjour Luciano

Hi Luciano,
a very lively and exciting colour of these allamanda. The bright yellow is captivating and the composition of three is well balanced.
Very exciting sharpness and dense colour.

Ciao Luciano,

Just read Your comment to Bayram where You mentioned You're very busy now and having some health problems. I hope every bad thing will be over for You very soon and You'll return to TN with full energy.

About Your opinion people on TN don't like flowers or fishes too much: I'm certainly not one of those people. I myself also like to photograph flowers very much, mostly in spring, although it's true fungi are my top favorites.

This shot is exceptionally well composed and managed light-wise, everything (compo, colors, sharpness, DOF) is excellent, the whole presentation is something rarely seen in the "Flowers" category of TN. Plus yellow is my favorite color, so this photo's very pleasant to my eyes on this cold Saturday morning, when the sky's cloudy, snow's very few, sunlight's poor and the general conditions are absolutely unfit for taking useful photos (here). So, many thanks for giving me great minutes while I looked at Your brilliant image, which lets me remember summer will once come again.

We're waiting for Your comeback, friendly regards, Ladislao

ciao Luciano!

Beautiful bright yellow flowers conforming to the principle of three. Well exposed under the light and details are very good on those fragile petals.

Nicely framed and TFS.

Best regards,
