[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

I photographed that Pale Cracker last year in Dominican Republic. Around 20 of these butterflies were standing upside down (like this one) on a tree trunk. The camouflage cannot be better.

Crackers are named for the sound they make. Male flying crackers make a cracking sound in flight that can be heard 30 yards away; they're especially noisy when engaging in aerial disputes with other males for territory or females. Typical male behavior across the animal kingdom.

Beautiful details, and very realistic mimicry on this butterfly, you really did an outstanding job only by seeing it, well done!

Fantastic capture, Michel.
Well seen and well presented.
Excellent focus and exposure.
Interesting subject. TFS. : )

Hi Michel

Felicitation pour ta photo, beaucoup de gens seraient passés à côté sans l'apercevoir ( moi y compris )

In a friendly way Christophe

Hi Michel,
excellent colours and details, perfect demonstration of a stunning kind of camouflage shown by a day active butterfly on its upper wings. That species seems to have decided to show signals of presence and attractivity by the sounds it produces, rather than by a conspicuous marking. Very well chosen point of view. Thank you!
Best regards,

This specimen surely meges well with the background, Michel.
Very good capture with natural colors and sharpness. The patterns and designs on the wings are interesting but not loud.

Very good photo.
Excellent note.
Thank you 'beaucoup' Michel.

J'ai vu un petit papillon bleu hier matin à l'Île Notre-Dame. À chaque année la même joie m'envahit.

Hi Michel
is the subject of my last two post, what we usally do is take bright subjects which stad out in the BG, but to take such sujects you need skills and lot of trail and error :-) you have done extremely well to show the subject. Great composition!!

Hi Michel,
Great example of camouflage, done very well. Very nice detail and a good POV. Interesting note about the "cracking" sound they make. I'd never heard of it before..
