Wingspan 44 - 48 mm.

Have been glad to show you Melitaea phoebe, the Knapweed Fritillary -
in a previous posting in full size,
and as a body and face close-up.

Now here I am happy to show another close distance encounter from the same shooting session - the actress rubbing her beautiful eyes with well designed brushy wipers, extended mouthparts, the “palpi labiales”.

Probably Phoebe was a bit irritated by my fill flash approaches.

When checking the images and noticing that butterfly’s pose as shown here, I was rubbing my eyes, too.

The camera:
SONY DSC-H5, 3072 x 2304 pixel, sRGB, 18mm tele macro zoom (equivalent 105mm at full size SLR), F/5.6, 1/2000 sec., ISO-125, hand held, with fill flash. 12.05.2007, 17:48.

Photoshop Elements, significantly cropped to 1362 x 1362 pixels, downsized to 800x 800 pixels for web presentation, resharpened, levels slightly adjusted.

Another great butterfly photo. The esposure is fantastic with such good light underneath but yet the sky is not blown out. I do not know how to do that with flash. Outstanding detail also with razor sharp focus. I really like the POV on this one!

Oh Oh Oh,
This is one of the best POV's i have seen. It takes a master to create a masterpiece. In the age where people are still struck to old way of presenting and looking at things , you have shown us the way to look at things differently. A DDC for me.

HI Peter,
Du machst mich fertig - soooo nahe, so scharf, so toll!

Herrlich.
Herzlichen Dank auch für den Begleittext.
Herzliche Grüsse

Hi, dear Peter.
I feel myself absolutely small as the liliputian. Amazing crop and POV. Bravo. So impressive picture. I want to repeat again: flash light and work with flash are great. Colourfulness of the butterfly, ear and sky is excellent. Fantastic details and sharpness of the image do not require any comments. Superb, unique shot. Bravo and my best wishes.

The colours, the focusing, the contrasts, the notes ....
all with meticulas care.
In other words: OUTSTANDING WORK, again.
You are a true MASTER of this art.
Am glad you are part of TN. There is so much I can learn
from you.
Best of the best with gratitude,

Hi Peter,
Though details, colours and pose are enough reasons to post this excellent close-up, eyes gesture is really special!

Hello Peter,

What a great close-up and a wondeful composition (by putting the head at the 1/3rd upper right! The details on the wings are amazing and the colors looks very natural! You got a great POV in order to offer us such a fantastic image!

Great job and TFS,!
