Freshly hatched:

Titania’s Fritillary,
Nacré porphyrin …

Boloria titania cypris (Meigen, 1828)

Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Heliconiinae
Wing span: approx. 40mm

An endangered species of cool and humid meadows that are rich with flowers, flying in the Alps at elevations from 600m to approximately 1600m. Caterpillars are living on Polygonium distorta.

Reforestation of humid meadows and overfertilization have seriously diminished the populations of this species in central Europe. In areas where traditional methods of extensive agriculture are still practiced - e.g. in major parts of the Oetztal valley - this exquisite species may still be seen in good numbers.

Hallo Peter,
Schönes Bild von einem ursprünglichen Stellung genommen.
Ausgezeichnete Schärfe.
Das Beste für 2015.

Hello Peter

With the POV face to face, a great photo of this butterfly,
and with the way diagonally being framed in the image
it adds dynamism to the photo, with beautiful light,
great focus, sharpness, details, and contrast, TFS

Hallo Peter,
Beautiful macro shot from an unusual low PoV. Excellent sharpness on the abdomen / antennae, perfect eye contact. :-) Bravo! At the same time I'd like to say big thanks for visiting my gallery and for commenting my snaps. Have a healthy and prosperous new year!
Best regards, László (the "almost-Irish")

Lieber Peter,
Melde mich dann nachher wieder.
Herzlich grüsst

Hello Peter,
The fritillaries are always marked with such intricate patterns and designs. I see you decided to show us this particular specimen from a little different POV. The contrasting orange, black, white, brown and maybe even a hint of light purple colors are blended into these markings like a fine painting.
It's kind of neat to view it's nicely focused head area from this angle, allowing us to see it's proboscis all curled up rather then probing a bloom. Well done!!

Hello Peter,
