I am pretty sure there are images with the yellow gentian, and all of them having quite useful information. I am not going to copy some wikipedia info, as all you can do it.
By posting this image, I am actually sharing with you one of my "small discoveries". Since I was trekking in the Romanian mountains I wanted to see this species. But there the species is quite rare and despite the fact is a protected species, is still collected for some medicinal liquors.
This year however, while hiking in the Austrian Alps, I found it! Plenty of them! Next to the hiking paths, next to the typical Austrian cows grazing the mountain grass, next to the huts, actually, everywhere! So, I was extremely pleased to find this rare plant in such high numbers.
