Happy Easter to everyone at TN!!!

This is a closeup shot of the blossoms of one of the almond trees in my garden.

Actually, the almond tree originates from the Middle East, but it can also be found in Austria and other Middle European countries. The almond tree is a fairly small tree, reaching between 4 and 10 metres in old age. The flowers of the almond tree are white or pale pink, with five petals, produced singly or in pairs before the leaves in early spring.

There are two different type of almonds, one (usually with white flowers) producing sweet almonds, and the other (usually with pink flowers) producing bitter almonds. The fruit is a drupe 3.5–6 cm long, with a downy outer coat. The outer covering is reduced to a leathery grey-green coat, also called the hull, which contains inside a hard shell the edible kernel (commonly referred to as a nut).
