Aglais urticae.
Clematis recta.

The plant:

Clematis recta (Linnaeus, 1753)
Ground Virginsbower
Aufrechte Waldrebe,

Kingdom Plantae – Plants
Subkingdom Tracheobionta – Vascular plants
Superdivision Spermatophyta – Seed plants
Division Magnoliophyta – Flowering plants
Class Magnoliopsida – Dicotyledons
Subclass Magnoliidae –
Order Ranunculales –
Family Ranunculaceae – Buttercup family
Genus Clematis L. – Leather Flower
Species Clematis recta L. – Ground Virginsbower

Plant of South Eastern Europe, wide spread at dry and sunny locations near edges of deciduous forests, in blossom from May to July.

Eichkogel - a limestone hill covered with pannonian grassland, surrounded by vineyards, near the town of Moedling, South Eastern Lower Austria.

The butterfly:

Aglais urticae L., Small Tortoiseshell, this year's first offspring of hibernated parents. For more information on this butterfly please see A. urticae.

By the way, did you notice the green spider? I didn't, when I took the picture. Wherever there is some regular traffic of butterflies, a well disguised Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) seems to be present. This place has been no exception.

Camera: Nikon COOLPIX E4600, 2288 x 1712 pixels, sRGB, 17mm, macro activated, F/8,2, 1/114 sec., ISO-50, 05.06.2006, 10:48. No tripod, no flash.

Postwork: Photoshop Elements. Cropped at both sides, slighly sharpened, saturation, contrast and brighness adjusted, selective noise reduction. Resized to the web.

Thank you for looking.
Have a very good day.

Hi Peter
I like your flower shot, but what a beehive of activity. A butterfly, a green crab spider, and what critter is that to the left just below the butterfly? Is it some kind of beetle?
Looks like 3 species of insects and 1 plant species on one photo. I'm not sure if this is a TN first.
Anyway, well captured and presented with amazing details and colours.
Excellent work and TFS.

Incredible capture Peter.
Great composition, colors and beautiful details.
Excellent POV and BG, great framing too.
