[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Vulture is the name given to a group of 15 species of birds in the Old World. The largest of these has a wingspan of up to 2.8 m and weighs up to 8.5 kg. The various species occur in southern Europe, India, Africa, the Near East, Japan, and Korea. Possessing keen vision, the vulture can see the carcasses of dead animals and the movements and activities of other scavengers, birds, or mammals from great distances. The vulture also prefers open spaces, foraging over grassland, thornbush, macchia, karoo, desert, and other sparsely vegetated regions, while it avoids large forested areas.
Despite their powerful bill, most species of vultures have difficulty in penetrating the hides of larger mammals, and often have to wait for some decomposition to take place or for the activities of other scavengers, such as the hyena, to open the carcass. Their long neck is usually nude, like their head, enabling them to reach deep inside the dead animal on which they feed. Unlike birds of prey, the talons of Old World vultures are relatively weak and unsuitable as weapons of attack. Their large, powerful wings, however, allow them to soar for hours at a time on the warm air currents. In their role as one of nature's "garbage collectors," the vulture performs an effective and useful function.

Yes another birdshot.I took it on Antwerpen Zoo, an old beautiful Zoo with many secies. I looked on the web for the official specie, but I could not find the sort. Maeby someone can help me with the name. I hope you like the shot.

Hi Jaap,

I really like the pose of the bird, the composition and the details in the eye and on the black plumage. The white feathers however are OE and so is the light part on the beak. The BG is great and so is DOF. Well done & TFS!

Hi Jaap, nice portrait. I like the composition/tight crop and the focus is very good. The only critisisms I have is that the whites are over-exposed and the black feathers in the bottom right look like a little too much noise reduction has been done. Apart from that, great shot.

Hi Jaap, what a beautiful eye colour it has. This is a nice composition filled with the vultures head. My major nit is to the overexposed areas at the tip of the bill and the back of the head.
Anyway a nice picture to look at.

Goedemorgen Jaap,

Dit zou ik niet durven dergelijke macro maken, maar wat één, de kwaliteit is van de bovenste plank, ook is het wit op de zijkant aanwezig, de ogen en de kop samen met de bek overstemmen alles, prachtig werk wat u ons laat zien Jaap, en zeggen dat dit gemaakt is met uw (oud !!!) toestel.

Jaap, I don't know if I have already told you I do enjoy vultures. I myself have already taken many pictures of them.
