Known phenomenon on oak leaves, the gall wasp (Ichneumonidae) lays eggs on the leaves of the oak, it responds by making gall.
Fertilized egg = female
Unfertilized egg = male
This is called arrhentokie
Gall wasp species in the genus Cynips.
