Yesterday, I presented the Helophilus trivittatus female. Today, here is the male (on a flower of Jacobaea vulgaris). It is a hoverfly of the Syrphidae family. This helophilus can be distinguish from others species by its yellow vertical stripe down the 'face', its bright yellow marks and its third femur black on a part with a yellow strip on the apex. On the end of the abdomen, it has little light yellow strips: 3 for the female, 2 for the male.
You can find here ici a very useful table to distinguish the 3 commun species of helophilus. It is in French, but easy to understand thanks the drawings and the photos.

Hello Catherine!

Hoverflies like yellow flowers which is very good for photographers - flies look great on yellow BG :-) Another very nice and interesting specie, well captured and described.

Nice shot. Beautiful colours and composition. The bee is sharply focussed.
