Rhingia campestris is a species of hoverfly, some 7 to 11mm in length, with a wing span from 12 to 18mm. It is not un-common in many parts of Europe from March until November. It has a broad orange abdomen with a black line along the sides (the black line is absent along the sides of Rhingia rostrata), and has the distinctive long snout of all Rhingia species. Larvae are associated with cow dung. Adults feed on nectar and pollen. (Wikipedia)

Hi Catherine

the beauty of it! Wonderfully composed this fly on a Holcus flower with the spider thread. Lokks like an aereal act. I always wondered about the utility of the elaborate snout, but I have no answer so far.
Best regards
Dietrich

Hello Catherine. This Canon optics did wonders in your hand. Super sharp copy focused to perfection. I like the look of the compound eye that really pops. Nicely silenced green background provides excellent and yet pleasing contrast to the image. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Wow, Catherine!

Another superb, razor sharp macro of fly! Insect looks fantastic. Composition with green BG is great. I'm really surprised that woman prefers flies over butterflies :-)

Hi Catherine

Just a quick one now...trying to catch up after my trip last week :)

I see you've become an expert with that splendid macro lens of yours and produced here an amazing close-up of this interesting fly.
The details are remarkable and the texture they retain from the hoverly is terrific! Your side POV is great for such a shot and the shallow DOF works perfectly for both the subject and the BG.

Bravo and TFS

Hello Catherine, Superb shot and wonderful. I notice that there is water droplets on the flower. The shot is well composed and very sharp Ganesh

Hello Catherine,

Skillful macro work!
The insect is captured with superb details, and the DoF spot on isolates the subject very well...
A fine composition, and the colour palette is balanced and attractive to my eyes!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Bonjour Catherine,

Très bonne photo de ce syrphe. Excellent angle de vue. Grande netteté. L'exposition est excellente également. Superbes couleurs.

Mario

Impressive, clear and vivid! Some noise could be avoided by selective sharpening. We have the same cameras and I know how difficult it is. Good shot my friend.
