The Common Bog Hoverfly (Sericomyia silentis) is one of the largest hoverflies of Europe (about 16mm length), of the Syrphidae family. It has a broad abdomen with 3 pairs of wedge-shaped yellow bars and reddish-orange legs.
It flies between May and October, on meadows, damp woodland and frequently visits flowers.

This is a female (separated eyes). I added a part of another shot to show the details of the head.

Hello catherine. Beautiful sharp image with the compound eyes really popping in the inset. I like the angle captured with the view against the pleasing violet flower and the silenced green background. Thanks for sharing and best regards. Jusni

Hello Catherine!
As I see last week you started to specialize in Syrphidae flies! Great to see your new capture, especially that every new picture is better and better! Great sharpness, clarity and DOF. I like also that you decided to show us this species on two pictures - one in total, one in head details :)
What to say at the end? Well, I am waiting for next image!
Best regards,
Radomir

Hello Catherine,
A very impressive presentation of this large Hoverfly! I like the POV in both where you show it from different angles, both very sharp and in natural colours. I like the way you've captured the beautful wings too. Well done!
TFS and regards, Ulla
