The Small Copper, American Copper or the Common Copper, Lycaena phlaeas, is a butterfly of the Lycaenids or Blues family. It is a common and widespread little butterfly easily identifiable in the UK. (There are similar species in continental Europe.)
It is found in a wide variety range of habitats from chalk downlands, heathland, woodland clearings to churchyards and waste ground in cities.
In bright sun it is a very active little butterfly with the males setting up small territories which they will defend vigorously against rival males or indeed any unlucky passing insect. Even the shadow of a large bird passing overhead is enough to get him going. Females are pursued mercilessly and mating usually occurs low down in vegetation. (Wikipedia)
(Wikipedia)

Hi Catherine. A warm colour to your close up of the Small Copper Butterfly. Which you have captured with good detail colour. We can see both sides of the wings. Looks good on the bright orange flowers with the small fly. well done TFS.

Hi Catherine
Another good work with your Canon EF 100 mm F2.8 Macro USM. Maybe the POV is not perfect for butterflis but your shot has great colors, perfect OOF background and the main object is sharp and prominent
Best wishes

Hi Catherine,
Personally, I like butterfly pictures from loys of different angles, rather than just the flat-on wing picture, so I appreciate the drooping antennae and the feeding proboscis in this picture of the Small Copper. I would have cropped more oof the right side and sharpened it a little more around the wing edges. Nice picture, thanks.

Good image, Catherine.
I especially like the natural light and the differential focus.

muy atractiva composicion,colores y contrastes.

Hi Catherine, superb shot of this beautiful butterfly with superb clarity. Perfect in all around. By the way this morning, while I was wolking to unibversity campus I also captured one but this is very impressive in both quality and composition.
TFS this beauty my friend!

Beautiful image Catherine,
Love the soft BG and the short DOF isolating the subject in your frame..
Perfect color & exposure, an interesting POV. Excellent point of focus also.
Well composed - Well done!

Hello Catehrine, Superb colorful and lovely color tones. I like the capture with the superb composition. Well done Ganesh

Hi Catherine,
this is a very attractive little copper that you have uploaded and I think it is similar to one of my own uploads I called " all the world's a stage".I seldom photo insects but on occasion I will shoot photos of butterflies and dragonflies as they are pretty looking creatures with a great variety of colours and patterns.I have witnessed butterfly aggression with my own eyes and they do try to defend their territories even against people, which is kinda cute if you ask me.I would not harm or injury one as with all living things, butterflies too deserve respect.Your capture shows very good colour and well focused details, the only thing I would have done differently was for more focus, stopped the lens down to say say like f/8 to get more flower in focus.A nice one and thank you for sharing. Bob

Great Shot...
