The many warm and sunny of this summer are favourable for butterflies. I had the chance to see a quite rare and protected species in Belgium today: the Jersey Tiger. Unfortunately, the photo I took with the open wings is burred (posted as workshop here). But I found this one attractive too.

Euplagia quadripunctaria (Poda, 1761)
Family : Arctiidae

The Jersey Tiger is one of the most attractive of the Tiger moths. In UK, this species was until recently restricted in distribution to the Channel Islands and parts of the south coast. On the mainland it is commonest in south Devon, but colonies have recently appeared in Dorset and the Isle of Wight, and it has also been found in other southern counties. It now seems to be expanding its range quite quickly.
It flies both in the daytime, when it can be found feeding on various flowers, as well as at night, when it is attracted to light. The main flight period is July to September.
The hairy larvae feed on a range of herbaceous plants including nettle (Urtica). (UK Moths)

Photo taken with a monopod.

Hi Caterine
An attractive composition, an almost faultless lighting : this is great picture of "l'écaille chinée" !
Well done indeed.

Good Evening, Catherine!

Wow, what a great macro capture of the adorable butterfly! The colors are so well defined and so are the textures. The sharpness is crisp and the POV is simply well-chosen. The DOF is very fine. I like the contrast of the butterfly's colors to the sorroundings.
Very well seen!

thanks and regards,
Paras Bhalla

Bonita toma Catherine, yo también la publiqué hace poco tiempo. Gran precisión en el enfoque y bstante buen control de la luz que tenías.
Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Catherine!

Great macro of beautifull and rare moth. Dorsal POV is great - colours and patterns remaind of some kind of Swallowtail. Nice composition with flower and clean BG. Pity that picture with opened wings isn't sharp, but maybe you could post it as workshop?

ciao Catherine!

ciao sERGIO

Catherine,

Great capture and beautiful colors.

Bonjour Catherine,
Bravo!
Amicalement
Anne

Hi Catherine. I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful moth last weekend, and what an experience it was. I'm still impressed by its beauty. Compliments on the lighting, composition and sharpness. It looks really great.

Thanks for sharing,
