On a stormy autumn day, I noticed two fresh flowers of Dog Rose, in a shrub, among the bright red rosehip. Usually, it blossoms in May-June. But Nature has always gems to share with us. That’s why I want to dedicate this little wonder to my friend Goldy (goldyrs). I wish you many daily wonders and joys to make grow the wild rose of serenity and happiness in your heart.

Rosa canina L.
Family: Rosaceae
Common names : Dog rose, Brier Hip, Hip Tree [En], Eglantier, Rosier des chiens, Rosier sauvage [Fr], Kuşburnu, Yabangülü [Tu], Stenros [Sw], Steinnype [No], Hunderose [Da], Vadrózsa [Hu], Hondsroos [Nl], Hunds-Rose [De], Rosa silvestre, Escaramujo [Es], Rosa canina [It], Măceş [Ro]

It is a deciduous shrub normally ranging in height from 1–5 m, though sometimes it can scramble higher into the crowns of taller trees. Its stems are covered with small, sharp, hooked prickles, which aid it in climbing. The leaves are pinnate, with 5-7 leaflets. The flowers are usually pale pink, but can vary between a deep pink and white. They are 4–6 cm diameter with five petals, and mature into an oval 1.5–2 cm red-orange hip. The hips are, from a botanical point of view, false fruit, the real fruit being those small, hairy achenes inside.

Distribution: Europe, Northwest Africa, Western and Central Asia. It is naturalized in North America and Oceania.
Etymology: The botanic name is derived from the common names 'dog rose' or similar in several European languages. It is sometimes considered that the word 'dog' has a disparaging meaning in this context, indicating 'worthless' (by comparison with cultivated garden roses) (Vedel & Lange 1960). However it also known that it was used in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to treat the bite of rabid dogs, hence the name "dog rose" may result from this.
Medicinal uses: The plant is high in certain antioxidants. The fruit is noted for its high vitamin C level and is used to make syrup, tea and marmalade. It has been grown or encouraged in the wild for the production of vitamin C, from its fruit (often as rose-hip syrup), especially during conditions of scarcity or during wartime.

Hi Dear, i am sure L'lil Bro Goldy will love this dedication!
The low POV worked well and contributed to the nice bokeh in the background. Exposure looks superb, there is nice color saturation and excellent focus on the rose.
An artistic composition, that shows nice detail and good use of relatively shallow DOF.
TFS and have a nice new week!
Cheers,

Bayram

Hi Catherine. This wild rose is so deliciously captured and the exposure is so well metered. Love the framing and the buds ready to expose the beauty. Pleasing shallow DoF and the image really pops right from the thumbnail. Goldy must be pleased with the dedication. Regards - Jusni
