[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This woodland butterfly gets its name from the series of "pearls" that run along the outside edge of the underside of the hindwing. Males are often seen flying swiftly, low across the breeding site in search of a mate and are extremely difficult to follow, the colouring of the wings providing excellent camouflage against the dead bracken that is often found at these sites. The Pearl-bordered Fritillary may fly with the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary at certain sites, although the Pearl-bordered Fritillary, which emerges a couple of weeks before the Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary, generally appears much paler in colour as a result.

Hello John,
What a beautiful array of colored patterns in its wings, like a stained glass window! Excellent focus resulting in exceptional detail and rich colors. Exposure looks great and I like the framing.

J'aime beaucoup cette Boloria printanière..je ne l'ai pas encore vue cette saison ici. Belle image de cette espèce.

Very colorful and nicely presented. I think it needed a smaller aperture for greater DOF, however, to capture the wings and antenna more clearly. It seems as I look at the images of butterflies and moths on this website that one has to be absolutely at 90 degrees from the insect to get absolute clarity and not lose detail due to the shallow DOF of a typical macro shot.
