The Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) is a small dragonfly of the family Libellulidae native to Eurasia. It is one of the most common dragonflies in Europe, occurring in a wide variety of water bodies, though with a preference for breeding in still water such as ponds and lakes. Adults are on the wing from June until November.
The male is usually dull red and the female yellow, orange or brown. This small red Dragonfly is seen in a wide variety of habitats, including lakes, ponds, canals and slow-flowing rivers. (Wikipedia)

This shot was made with my new lens. A great tool!

(Odonates22)

Hi Catherine
A good shot. Although this species is common it is still very beautiful. Lovely blurred background in contrast to the sharp detail of the subject. I have the 100 USM myself and it is an awesome lens.
Kind Regards

Hello Catherine!

Last days I'm very interested in d-flies, so I like your picture very much. Perfect, clean composition, very good quality, interesting insect. These dragonflies are also very common in my neighbourhood.

Hi Catherine

A lovely shot of this common darter, presented superbly here with all these sharp details.
You made the best use of your great lens and you managed a terrific sharpness on your subject and a lovely DOF, to make sure that the BG is nicely blurred, too.
Wonderful colors everywhere - subject and BG - and nice composition, too.

Bravo and TFS

Geia sou Katerina

Hi Catherine,

What a nice portret of the dragonfly you did! Excelent POV showing well the body of the insect as well as part of wings structure. You have used very well the light and the nice refelxion from the eyes look great. Colors of the body look perfectly natural and fit well with the background.

Thank you for sharing,

Excelente enfoque, encuadre, luz y colores... vamos, que todos los parámetros están muy conseguidos por lo que el resultado había de ser bueno. Preciosa.
Un abrazo: J. Ignasi
