As I know to my experience and reading book that caterpillar is colorful if a its butterfly has beautiful coloration or contrary case. this is really great sample for this phrase. larva has a splendid coloration. you greatly captured it with a sharp details, great lighting and exposure. POV/DOF and composition with umbelliferan plants very nice. you already noted umbellifers as a host plant.

A wonderful capture of an almost fully grown P. machaon caterpillar. Technically first class and I like the composition with the host Wild carrot against a nice neutral BG.

I am very glad to see that this species leaves also in Belgium. And really hoping that this larva will survive during winter and becoming in the next spring an extraordinary butterfly. I did not know also that the colors are so strong, in fact not being a good camouflage. Excellent details , well composed.
