Eupeodes luniger (Meigen, 1822)
Family: Syrphidae

Eupeodes luniger is a common hoverfly of Europe of 8mm long. It has a black "Y" on the frons and comma-shaped markings on T3 & T4 which don't reach the edge of the abdomen (On female E. corollae, it reach edge of abdomen).

The flower is a Sweet scabious (Scabiosa atropurpurea L.), family Dispacaceae.

Hi Catherine. This is a fine close up of the Hoverfly on the rich coloured flower. Taken with sharp focusing and fine detail. I like the plain BG. well done TFS.
