The harfang of snows is a majestic bird which raises much amazement. See this bird to fly is, quite simply, a marvellous spectacle. I am sure, that like me, you dream to better know that which one calls also the owl of snows. Where did it see? The harfang of snows lives in north of Asia and Europe and in North America. This beautiful bird lives countries such as Canada and the United States. It is besides one of the emblems of the province of Quebec. Its characteristics The harfang of snows is the largest bird of its kind. Indeed, if his wings are counted, it has a scale from 140 to 160 cm. Its plumage is of white color, with sometimes, especially in the female, of the stripes and/or the small tasks. Its head is round and its eyes are yellow. In this bird, as at several others, the female is larger than the male. The harfang of snows is one of the rare birds to have feathers until the end of the legs. Small uncommon fact, its neck can turn up to 270 degrees but, thanks to the speed with which it carries out this movement, it gives the impression to us to turn to 360 degrees. Its food The harfang of snows is carnivorous. This bird eats small animals like, of the lemmings, hares. It eats also fish and even, other birds! The harfang of snows is at the same time night and diurnal thus, it drives out the day like the night. Its excellent night vision made of him a very good hunter. If the harfang of snows reduces its activities to the maximum, it is able not to eat during 40 days! However, if its will wants it well, it can eat to 300 mice in 1 month. Impressing! Its way of life The harfang of snows is a solitary bird, except during the period of reproduction. This beautiful bird is, like several others, a migratory bird. Although it does not emigrate until Florida, the harfang of snows goes down until in the center from Quebec, sometimes. Those which live Europe and Asia also emigrate in places a little less cold, during the winter. Its habitat The habitat of this bird of snows varies according to seasons'. The summer, it lives in north, in the tundra, while the winter, it goes down towards the south. During this season, the harfang of snows seeks fields, marshes or shores. It likes especially the extents dishes. source: larocque véronique

Hi Eric,
Good sharpness. Snowy is well depicted.
Noise in the background though. You can get rid of that using a tool in Photoshop or a one trick poney software as NeatImage. The latter seems to be better. I saw the results but I haven't bought or used it myself though.

Hello Eric,
Very nice portrait. Good exposure of the white plumage and nice effect in contrast with the dark background. The noise is not so prominent in fact :-)
