[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This male water beetle Acilius sulcatus was photographed at night with the help of a halogen torch light. Note of the front legs are modified to grip females during mating, whilst the hind legs are very efficient paddles for swimming.
This species can fly and is nocturnal.

This is an interesting shot Philippe. We don't see many aquatic insects on TN. I presume this is similar to the English Great Diving Beetle. The patterns are very striking. Just a little out of focus, but its not easy shooting into water. You did a good job. Well done.

Something from my beloved field - inland waters. Good photo of this interesting beetle in Polish called Plywak Zoltobrzezek. I love background made from gravel. Very good post.
