Sand pyramids in Melnik

After Radek (cicindela) and Michal (cedryk) have posted photos of sand pyramids in Melnik I decided to show you a different POV of this place. Photo was taken this year almost at noon. The sun was very strong that day. It is typical thing in Melnik on July and August :-) and it was extremely hot.

Melnik is the smallest settlement classified as a town in the Republic of Bulgaria and is located in Blagoevgrad Province (sometimes referred to as Pirin Macedonia), in the southwestern Pirin Mountains, about 440 m above sea level.

According to archaeological evidence, the first to settle in the area were the Thracians. Centuries later, the presence of the Romans left the town one of its landmarks - the Ancient Roman bridge, which is still preserved. The Slavs who later came in these parts named the settlement Melnik after the sand formations surrounding it on all sides (the Slavonic word "mel" means "white clay, chalk"). Melnik became a part of the Bulgarian state under the rule of Khan Presian (836-852) and prospered greatly in the period.

Melnik and Antarctica

After my South Shetland Islands photos this one has also something to do with Antarctica.

Melnik Ridge and its summit Melnik Peak on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica are named for Melnik.

Hello Krzysztof,
(a real effort to write your name:-)
Interesting content; looks like sand but in fact it is clay if I'm not misunderstood...
Well done

Hi Krzysztof,
very impressive looking landscape, the weathering has created some amazing shapes and formations. Great composition with the highest peak on the left and the trees lined up on it's lower slopes. Beautiful blue sky and bright light that shows how hot it was that day, i like the link with the Antarctic mountain.

Hello Krzys,
Beautiful POV of these majestic sand pyramids. Very interesting formations and I like the way the pine trees climb up along the side of that pinnacle! Quite amazing! Great DOF and beautiful colours. You three must have a great time exploring together!

Witaj Krzysztofie,
To zadziwiające - szczyty wyglądaja jak piramidy, a świerki jak grupa wspinaczy pnących się ku szczytom. Ładny kadr, bardzo dobra kompoozycja.
Pozdrawiam,
Jurek

A nice picture study og geology! The patterns are eno9ugh for my wife to explain as she is the geologist. Very nice composition. Perhaps it is just me who loves high contrasts tho. Sometimes I loose much in the black areas.

Hi Krzysztof.
Your landscape/mountain picture is simply superb. I am impressed a lot. Great pictured scene and amazing POV. Colours are clean and wonderful. Sharpness of all image is crisp. I like cold a bit colours. They reflect mountain atmosphere greatly. Bravo and TFS.
Alexei.

Krzysztof,

The best part of this picture, in my opinion, is the contrast between the harsh landscape and the woods in the valley. Also, the picture conveys the effect of an arid(?) landscape on a hot day. So, you have captured certain attributes that are not visible; yet fundamental to the subject in the photograph. I also like the composition with the row of trees that looks aligned with a path to the summit. Excellent picture of a unique landscape.

John

very nice landscape, the natura has created beautiful structure, liked the composition and the pov, appropriate pov, lovely natutral colours,

Hello Krzysztof,
Fine presentation of this amazing place, that we already had an introduction to from Radomir. I like the downward diagonal composition from left to right and the lighting and sharpness are excellent. Must be interesting to study the effect of vegetation on the slopes on the erosion.
Well done and TFS!
Ivan

Hi Krzysztof, wonderful mountain landscape with splendid light and colors, beautiful composition, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Krzysztof,

This is a great landscape; really well composed with the greenery forcing itself from the bottom right-hand-side of the picture up the mountain towards the opposite diagonal. I works really well. Thanks for sharing,

Mike

This is an interesting landscape, Krzysztof. I particularly like that row of trees marching up that angled slope. Perfect exposure and sharpness.

Hi Krzysztof,
A very nice landscape composition. Strong light from the sun, but you handled the exposure very well. Colors and detail look good. A nice sense of depth to the scene.

Hello Krzysztof (I do copy and paste when writing your name which is the most difficult one for a dyslexic person :)In French it might be Christophe... :)

This is another so interesting place filled with history. Despite this strong lightning, you managed exposure pretty well! POV, composition and details are very nice. I enjoyed reading your useful notes too. Thanks!
Claudine

Hej ponownie!
Bodaj to ostatnie przeoczone zdjecie ostatnimi dniami :)
Nie jest to zapewne najbardziej odpowiadajacy mi kawalek okolic Melnika, ale za to wciaz sentymentalnie sie robi na widok takiego zdjecia. Duzo wspomnien... :) piwniczka, arbuz, zgubiona komorka...
Pozdrawiam raz jeszcze!
