It generally has a wingspan from 70 to 80mm.

Geographical distribution/ habitat: The Central and South of Europe, especially the warm and hot regions. Prefers hilly areas and flowery hamlets where lots of individual bushes grow. Large numbers of males often fly together round hilltops.

Host plants: Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), and other domesticated Prunus species, but also Pyrus, Malus, Sorbus, Crataegus spp.

Food plants: An avid nectar feeder, partial to lavender flowers especially.

Flight time: Usually two broods a year, on the wing in April-May and in September.

Splendid picture of this magnificent butterffly!
Excellent POV (with the perfect position of the wings), very beautiful colors, great light, BG and DOF. I also like the tight crop and the framing.

Beautifull butterfly. For a moment I thoght that you took this picture in Prag :-) Theoretically this specie live in Czechia and Poland, but I've never seen it. You're lucky to see it in Croatia. By the way - I hope to meet it during my holidays in Montenegro. Back to your picture - great details, colours, classic composition. Very nice, blurred BG. Slightly too compressed, but it's not your fault.

a very good close-up of this wonderful b-fly.
The colours and light are nice.
Good details on the wings but the antennae is OOF,
a higer f-number had helped to get the entire butterfly in focus.
Very well done.
