Yellow-cracking Bolete (Leccinum crocipodium, syn. L. luteoporum)

Cap: 40-75 mm broad, rounded hemispherical to convex with straight, appendiculate margin extending over tubes for about 1 mm, yellowish brown or reddish brown, sometimes with an olivaceous tinge, later on darker olivaceous-brown, dry, appressed tomentose becoming entirely cracked with age, breaking up in small irregular patches showing pale grey context in between. Tubes adnexed to adnate, narrowly to broadly ventricose, up to 15 mm broad, pale yellow; pores small rather bright yellow.
Stipe: 60-150 x 15-30 mm, straight, typically fusiform with broadest part below the middle, tapering at base, more rarely cylindrical, creamy-white at apex, pale chrome-yellow below, minutely squamulose in longitudinal rows of small yellow to dark brown floccose squamules which become coarser towards base. Context thick, firm, pale yellow or cream-colored, staining reddish brown to violaceous-grey when bruised, blackening in damaged parts.
Habitat: associated with Quercus and Carpinus on heavy loamy, often slightly calcareous soil.
Rather rare species in my country.

Ahoj Honzo!

What a beautifull and tasty family! Perfect composition and DOF, great details and pastel colours. Very rare specie in Poland, I've never seen one of these fungi.

BTW last Sunday I was watching first part of Arabella serie on TV. I bet you know this fantastic serial. Czech's comedies are the best!

Hi Jan

Excellent shot of these little mushrooms.
Great sharpness and lovely natural colors. I also like the shallow yet very fitting DOF that isolates the subjects very well from the environment.
Very well done!

Bravo and TFS
