[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We got to the top of the fell on snow scooters just after sunset. The trees on the top were completely covered by snow and ice whereas at lower areas were already loosing their snowy winter cover. Temperature was dropping fast and by the time we were riding over the lake in the top right of the image (you can see the path) temperature went down to -25 or so... a cold drive back to bed.

Iivaara (470 m) is the highest fell of Southern Kuusamo. This felltop was agreed to mark the border between the two countries in the peace treaty (Täyssinä) in 1595 after a war between Russia and Sweden. The summit is treeless, and the very special kind of mineral called "ijolite" shows on the surface. The fell is the only place in Finland where this mineral is found. The Ahmanpolku trail goes via the top of Iivaara to Penikkavaara, Laihavaara and further to Hoikanlampi pond. The length of the trail is 16 km.

Tech Note
Had to use high ISO since it was getting dark - even so I had to use a slow shutter speed but it came sharp...

ISO 800 required noise reduction.
Also made 2 layers in PS and anjusted levels differently for the foreground and background.

Hello Shir,
Love the capture of the coors and details, fram gos well with the Great work, TFS Kyle

Beautiful landscape.
Well done.

This is an interesting photo with lots of contrasts in color, shapes, subject and values. Cameras so often give snow and ice this lovely blue. I always feel I need to adjust it for the sake of accuracy, but I do like it. In the late, cold evening I suppose it did look pretty blue. I know I would look pretty blue at -25!!

just a quick note - time is short this weekend - I love the shot and can't help wondering if you have a wide angle landscape shot of it.

The colours are really nice - good range and compisition - kind of feel it could be a touch sharper though...

Hi Shir,

Great atmosphere in this photo. The colors and the composition really make me feel cold. My compliments.

Hi Shir,
Great photo with amazing colors and lighting. I like the note that comes with it. I also like the softness of the photo. Do I see some of your snow scooter tracks at the bottom of the mountain?
