[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Dor Beetle (here the species Geotrupes vernalis) is not such a bad flyer, but its landings are really lousy! This one just bumped into a stone at my feet revealing the gaudy metallic colours of its belly ( the top is a rather dull black) Note how the membranous functionnal wings are not properly folded away under the elytra.
La Banne d'Ordanche, in July 2004.

Poor beetle.
He has phantastic colours.
You are so near - this bug looks as a monster.
You had the right time with the right light.

Hi Philippe, I watched the same beetle do a slightly better landing 2 weeks ago but I never managed to capture it. Very nice shot of this mishap. As you say the colours are very good underneath. Well done.

Hi Philippe, this is really a funny image. You got great colours underneath. Nice details in the DoF areas and a nice composition. Is it the full frame?
Well done.
