Help me for ID : On internet, sometime this crab-spider is called Misumena vaRia and often Misumena vaTia... In my mind (and in my book) the ID is varia, because she can change her colors (white-green-yellow) for camouflage. In your opinion, what is right, varia or vatia ???
---
Description : Scene of natural live. The prey is a Maniola jurtina, the predator is a Misumena varia female, the visitor is an Oxythyrea funesta, the flower is a Knautia arvensis...
---
Photo info : Taken in a field close to the Annecy lake at 450m altitude under a blue & white sky... No modification, resized, framed in 800x600 for TN and my website.

Hello Christian,
Excellent capture of an insect and crab spider scene so often ignored by 99% of the human population. Both the Scabious and the fauna are sharp and well-composed in this interesting shot.
TFS and regards, Ivan

Bonjour Christian,
Quelle foule sur cette Knautia! Scène si vivante mais malheureusement mortelle pour certaines créatures. Je dois dire que ces araignées-crabe sont assez fascinantes.Bien photographié, comme d'habitude.
Bonne journée sans trop de pluie
Anne

What a lovely collection of little critters and are impressed that you can name 4 different life forms. A good sharp image with good use of the DOF keeping the action in focus.

Cheers Clive

Hello Christian,
They're really cunning these little Crab Spiders the way they lie hidden in the flowers waiting for their prey. Sad for the butterfly and I wonder if the beetle is next in turn. Excellent sharp capture against a fine green background and very well composed.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hello Christian
Very good picture. That's how life is going ;)
Excellent composition, colours and sharpness.
Congratulations
Ania

Great shot Christian; I think it's varia

Great collection insects on thi sone flower.
Great action shot.
Perfect exposure for the crab spider and the others.
Excellent work and well composed.

Chris

Great capture for you aswell as the spider Christian.
Strange thing is that most articles in the French language about this spider are talking about Misumena varia, but as far as I know, and I looked it up on Google, the original name is Misumena vatia.
Just 450 articles are talking about varia and over 42000 about vatia.
Wonderful details and soft colors.
The beetle on top of the flower who does seem to act as referee is a wonderful extra and adds to the scene.
Thanks for sharing.
Kindest regards, Harry

Bonjour Christian,
What a crowded flower!
It's so good the mixture got here, as well you described in the title.
I like so much the great composition you made, is really good and well balanced.
The blurred background works great to stand out the several subjects.
Felicitacions et merci du partager.
Mes amities,
JM

And the photographer is Homo sapiens sapiens :-) Great macro and scene my friend! I like moment, nice colours and green BG. Three insects and one flower in one great shot!

Hi Christian,
What an amazing capture, four in one, the Butterfly, the spider and the other insect on a beautiful flower, impressive. The quality of the image is superb. All four look wonderful against the greenish background. You have a good eye.
Cheers,
Debbie

Bonjour Christian, il s'en passe des choses sur cette fleur ! Ces araignées crabes sont de redoutables chasseurs. Côté photo, rien à redire esthétiquement ou techniquement c'est tout bon.

Excellent - BRAVO!

And how's Lake Annecy? Winter is here now and our Annecy boat isn't being used as much now.

Cheers my friend

Hi Christian.
What a great success – the superb quality picture of this amazing subject. All is simply outstanding: composition at whole, perfect lights, crisp sharpness of each character of your dram, fine smooth colourful BG. Bravo and all my compliments.
Alexei.

Hello Christian,
Wow! That's a crowded flower!
I wonder who will be eating who in the end, well actually not...
The moment is well captured, with great details! Well composed presentation...
Greetings,
Pablo -

This is a nice one.
I like very much the predation scene, I usualy see this little crab spiders killing flies, mosquitoes... but the beautiful butterfly makes the scene stronger, and the visitor is a great bonus. Thanks very much for sharing, MF.
Best regards, Felipe.

wow what a catch, excellent capture of those three no make that four including the beautiful flower.
Great DOF with superb details and excellent sharpness.

Bonsoir Christian, cher ami,
thank you for visiting my recent crab spider posting that indeed is showing a very similar setting. And thank you for directing me to yours that I did not see before. You got an even busier scenery with a rose beetle as an unimpressed visitor to the blossom. Your Misumena vatia has lost all her yellow pigments for an even better camouflage. Very clear and well detailed image. Thank you!
My best regards,
Peter
