[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Since my registration, I've always looked with much pleasure to the numerous beautiful flying ducks some of you post regularly... a pleasure for the eyes. Thank you all for showing the way with your inspiring shots.
-----------------------
I've just got the EF100-400 L-IS three days ago and went to try it on the Seine river to catch birds flying. Many birds are nesting now, and I didn't found the liveliness of the recent mating season, but there were still the local ducks playing around. Although not perfect (see photographic facts), I like this one and would like to share it with you.
--------------------------------------------
ABOUT the DUCK
Many very good notes are available in the "ducks" theme about this well known mallard (Anas Platyrhynchos), so I won't duplicate.
--------------------------------------------
PHOTOGRAPHIC FACTS
-ISO 100 (I should have selected 400 or more, as the weather was dull and the subject was flying in the shade)
-Focal lenght 400mm (@ f/5,6, best aperture available, the original was quite underexposed)
-Burst mode, handheld, no flash.
Shot and adjusted in RAW mode, with a large compensation of the uderexposure. USM applied in Photoshop (180-0,7-2). NeatImage to compensate the BG noise created by the underexposure and USM correction.

Jolie prise. Bien vu.

This is a great flight-in shot, Jean Michel

I see only two very minor problems with this one; the dull green on his head instead of the more vivid green you get in sunlight (nothing much to do about that in dull weather, though) and a bit of overexposure on the white bits on the tail. Otherwise very good indeed, there's even a catchlight in the eye.

Excelent composition and the ISO 100 is right on. Excelent details.

Good capture Jean Michel. Now I can get you confused with Gert and Philip too.(I sometimes get their names mixed up because of their similar style and frames)
We really need more flying ducks ;)

Absolutely brilliant Jean Michel. Your first flight - great action shot. Colours and details perfect. Well shown! Bravo!

Lovely colours and composition Jean. You have a nice action shot here. DOF works very well and you have plenty of detail. I like the light, it is soft and you've captured the movement beautifully. Thank you for posting it for us :)

Hi Jean Michel
VERY nice catch of this DD. Happy you have the new toy and that it delivers. Shooting on the wing is not as easy as some here make it look. I spend the whole Wednesday morning last week doind it, and not one proper pic.

This is very good, just enough blur in the background to show the movement. I know how hard these are to do.

A new member alreay so accomplished! Lovely shot Jean Michel, seems like you are getting on handsomely with that new camera and glass. Very well done.

Superbe !

Its still a club I wouldl like to join. :)

Excellent shot, tack sharp and well composed. Very well done. I will follow shortly.. :)
