After Orchids my second favorite plants are Asclepiadaceae, they produce fascinating and colourful flowers .These plants are not frequently published on TN !
This Orbea variegata flower from my asclepiadacea’s collection
Orbea variegata is a leafless stem succulent endemic to South Africa
Family: Asclepiadaceae (Apocynaceae) (Milkweeds family)
Starfish Cactus and Toad Cactus are misleading common names because this plant is not a cacti,it is a succulent. A common name for the Orbea is Carrion Flower or African Carrion Flower.

Orbea variegata is almost certainly the most common Asclepiadaceae in cultivation, even if it is still often seen under its earlier name of Stapelia variegata, nowadays it is possible to find plants with both names in collections.

Etymology: The generic name "Orbea" derives from the Latin word “Orbis” meaning "circle, disc", referring to the thickened corolla part - the annulus -surrounding the flower centre. ( The genus name implies: "circle").
The specific name "variegata" derives from the Latin passive verb participle “variegatus” meaning “to make or be different colours, to variegate”
( The specific name implies: "variegated" ) *very variable

Hello Albert,
Excellent capture of these two fantastic succulent flowers. Amazing details and colours - they're so beautiful and I don't think I've seen these before but very similar wine-colour flowers. A fine composition too.

Hello Albert,
A very fine capture of a couple impressive Asclepiadacae flowers that remind me of the SE Asian Rafflesias. The sharpness of the nearest flower is perfect and the two are set in a fine composition from this excellent POV.
Thanks and have a good weekend,
Ivan

Bonjour Albert !
Quelle fleur magnifique !

Hi Albert,
Guuuauuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!
Superb capture!!! Fantastic species.
Well done. TFS and Greetings. Ferran

Hallo Albert
A beautiful presentation "gem". A very delightful view with fine details to appreciate. This is definitely a very attractive and sunny display of a variation of colours and as you say not something that is featured often on th site. This is a splendid shot. I really like the simple composition, and would not mind seeing and photographing a beauty as this. A lovely close-up which I enjoyed looking at. The patterns is remarkable and reminds me of crimpolene fabric, dresses was made of in the 60's. Thanks for sharing and have a most enjoyable day.
Anna

bonjour Albert
