CALOPTERYX SPLENDENS
Common name: Banded Demoiselle (UK), Calopteryx éclatant (Fr)
IDENTIFICATION
Lenght: 50mm, wingspan: 70mm.
A large, robust damselfly with flitting, butterfly-like flight. Males unmistakable, with metallic blue-green body and dark band across wings. Females metallic green with yellowish-green tint to wings.
Carnivorous insects, with larvae living two years amongst aquatic plants. Threatened by water pollution.
HABITAT
Close to slow waters with sunny banks. Visible from May to September even in medium altitude mountains. Europe, Middle-east, Maghreb.

Photographic facts
Sunny afternoon, taken on the shore of the Epte river in identical lighting conditions. BG is water. Both pictures have been cropped and resized before using PSE's Photomerge. Light on the subject being harsh, I used the highlight filter in PaintShop pro 9 to reduce it a bit.
It's my first post with the new Sigma 150 macro. Seems a very promising lens when I will be used to it.

Exposure
Male: shutter speed 1/200, F-Stop 5,6, ISO 200
Female: shutter speed 1/320, F-Stop 7,1, ISO 400

Jean Michel, what a good idea to show the 2 sexes. It makes them more understandable now for us, because I always thought they were 2 different types before. Both are good compositions and they have excellent colours and details. Well done and thank you.

Excellent presentation Jean Michel! Both are beautifull and perfectly captured. I tried to catch similiar damselfly today but without success. Great job!

It is very nice to have this doubble composition with both together. I like very much the male with the wings semi-open. Great colours and details. Nice work, my friend. Have a nice week.
