Common name : Fly Agaric. Scientific name : Amanita muscaria.

Pileus : cap 5-25cm diameter, rounded at first, then plane in age, surface viscid when moist. Margin striate often with adhering partial veil fragments when young. Cap red, usually with white warts but in one variety, yellow warts.

Lamellae : gills adnexed to free, white to cream, edges roughened.

Stipe : white, 7-16 cm long, 2-3 cm thick, tapering to a bulbous base ; partial veil membranous, breaking to form a superior skirt-like veil. Volva consisting of two to three concentric rings at the stipe base.

Spores : 9-13 x 6.5-9.5 µm elliptical, smooth, nonamyloid. Spore print white.

Habitat : Amanita muscaria occurs under conifers in forest. From June to November...

Edibility : Toxic. Contains ibotenic acid and muscimol.

---

I replace my first Amaita which was too much illuminated by the flash.

Now, for mushroom, I shot without flash ! Also I never use tripod, so in dark forest it is not easy...

The stuff of fairy tales, this is the archetypical toadstool. You've done a fantastic job here Christian, well done.

I have seen this Muscarias a hundred times, and I always want to see or photograph once more. Perfect exposure and great detail. Beautiful specimen this one!

Yes a fairies toadstool indeed as Paul said. I've seen lot's in storybooks. Reluctantly none in real life. Great capture Christian. Very detailed phot and note. TFS.

This is really a beautiful mushroom. You are getting quite good at this.
Bill

Taz, They should call this one "The Christmas Mushroom" because it sure looks like a Christmas ornament to me! I will say it again - the diversity of these things never ceases to amaze me! You've done an excellent job of capturing it in all its glory. Well done - AGAIN!!

Particulièrement bien photographié, avec une multitudes de détails et une excellente profondeur de champ. Nous avons aussi des amanites tue-mouches au Québec.
Félicitations Christian!
Ta note accompagnatrice m'apprend beaucoup.
