Cerambyx scopolii

I found these two bugs in my garden, this morning. They didn't move as I came close with my camera, and nothing could distract them, not even my cat that was with me when I took this photo :-)).

I was really impressed by their big size, it's one of the biggest insects I ever saw in my garden. I would have like a better close-up, but unfortunately my camera didn't allow me to get any closer.

Size : 17-30 mm.

Occurs in Europe, North Africa and Asia Minor. Common species found in many deciduous and rarely in coniferous trees in a wide range of habitats. Larvae develop in dead branches and trunks. Feed first beneath the bark, before excavating a gallery 8-10 centimetres long into the heartwood, at the end of which they construct a pupation chamber. The adults eclose either during the autumn or the following spring. Adults can be seen from early May until mid- August. Unlike other Cerambyx species, this is a diurnal species. On sunny days can be found on a range of flowers, on the hostplant or woodpiles.

Hi Valerie,
Rare insect that I never saw. Very well light control and contrast for black bugs and clear yellow grass. Though your camera wasn't close the shot is sharp and detailed. Interesting concentration, that may be dangerous.
Regards, José M.

Ben alors Valérie, on nous montre des insectes coquins ;-) Sérieusement c'est un joli ciché. J'aime bien le contraste du noir sur le fond de verdure. Compliments et merci.

Bonjour Valerie!
Very nice scene. Interesting subject and moment, good POV and composition. But I must say that more than beetles I like flower ;-) - it look so delicate and beautifull.

Hello Valérie!
I thought that Valérie would be very busy these days! Since you're in my favourite list, so I should have emails when you posted to TN, but I didn't get any of them! I don't know why! But it seems that you have posted great shots already. Okey, as for the photo, this is great really, interesting black bugs, you got it perfectly! So clear and crisp shot, focusing perfect also. With flowers this composition reached the summit! Congrats...
Cheers,
Ersin

Bonjour Valérie,
Belle composition, et l'exposition des carapaces noires est bien maîtrisée. Cela donne un joli contraste avec l'arrière-plan vert tendre.
Hugo.

Hello Valerie,
Well framed and with great details!
Maybe not the most colourful insects full of details, but you do nicely with what there is...
Good definition in the frame gives sharp fine details and attractive colours!
Greetings,
Pablo -
