When I went to the forest some days ago, I really didn't expect to see mushrooms. Weather is very dry and very hot these last days, and usually fungi tend to grow when weather is rainy. So I was looking for the Green Bush Cricket I saw earlier in the morning, or for some butterflies, or any other insect that would be kind enough to cross my way, when suddenly I saw these mushrooms around a log.

There were lots of them around that piece of rotten wood, at different stages of growth - some of them just came out of earth whereas others were dead already. This is a group of adults, the most beautiful. I have looked everywhere in the forest, but this log was the only area where mushrooms could be found.

I have no idea of the ID - my mushroom book is very old, with bad photos, so it's quite difficult to identify anything with it. :-) And on Internet it's difficult to find something when you have no name to start with. If somebody knows the name of this fungi, would be very nice to tell me !

Hello Valerie,
Magnificent fungi capture.Looks like a big family:).Colors, use of light, details, framing, sharpness and composition are wonderful.Excellent work!

Senz'altro una bella composizione, dettagli precisi, colori ottimi, brava Valerie!

Nicely composed sharp and clear shot, Valerie.
You have done well not to crop off the upper part of the image. It makes a nice blurred BG with the entire upper part of the moss covered log visible.

HI Valerie
This is such a delightful shot: well-composed, with splendid lighting, colours and dof. I love your POV, only barely above the ground to catch them in all their sizes and stages of development. The simple frame works very well too.

Hola Valerie,

Bonjour Valerie,
very nice shot, I like your low POV, shows the details od the mushrooms very well. Colors, exposure and DOF are excellent. A wondeful composition.

Hi Valerie,
This is a nice family of mushroom. Nice composition with short one on the foreground and level to the tallest on the back. Good exposure and background. TFS

Valerie, as you say is very difficult to id old fungi like this ones. They also look underdeveloped due to dry weather. Maybe if I could see the gills... The place, cluster formation and colours remember me some Hypolomas I have come across, but not sure at all.
It is a very nice shot. Nice composition, DOF and colours. TFS.

Hi Valerie,
Great colors and beautiful light makes this photo and excellent one. Your low POV is perfect and the DOF is very good. I might go for a slightly different aperture, so that the rock is either completely sharp or completely OOF. Anyway, the result is perfect and the composition is excellent.

Hi Valerie,
nobody has said to you what king of fungus your photo shows, so I tell you about ID.
This is Gymnopus fusipes (Bulliard 1783) Gray 1821, a common specie which grows as parasite and it is able also to live as saprotroph after the died of the wood.
In old book you can find it with an abandoned old name, Collybia fusipes (Bulliard 1783) quélet 1872.
I think this is a good composition even if we can't see the gills and it makes difficult the identification if you don't know very well the specie.

Marco (Sarcodon)

Hi Valerie,
I don't know the name either.
Nevertheless a wonderful capture. Good composition. Lovely colours.
It is a bit searching in the forest but most of the time you'll find something. Unfortunately often the same species.

Hi Valerie,
this is very beautiful picture! I like this fungi's family! Great composition, vivid colors, details and BG.

Best regards, Leonid

Hi my dear friend Val, a superbly captured cluster of a mushroom family from nice POV with neat details and excellent lit. During my London visiting, i visited your country on Calais via a Dover-Calais sheep and i liked so much.
TFS and cheers,

Ciao Valerie,
une belle prise de champignons, très bon cadrage vertical, bonne netteté et belles couleurs.
