Hi Cathy,
I think this plant is a giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum). I´m not sure but I think it´s right. For further information you can go on this page:

Hi cathy your plant is not Giant Hogweed which is a member of the cow parsley family, but is a very large herbacious water side plant called Gunnera manicata , have a look at this web site http://www.letsgogardening.co.uk/Information/EG/PlantsA/Gunnera.htm
