As mentioned before i found this nice still blooming
Buddleja bush at work, so i spent the last 3 days
a couple hours outside with my cam instead of working.

As the butterflies were not very cooperative i tried
my macro-skills on some friendly hoverflies, that
sat a little longer on the flowers next to the bush.

Altogether i filled my memorycard with about 800

Episyrphus balteatus, usually called the
Marmalade fly, is a relatively small hoverfly (9-12mm)
of the Syrphidae family, widespread throughout all
continents. Like most other hoverflies it mimics a
much more dangerous insect, the solitary wasp, though
it is a quite harmless species. The upper side of the
abdomen is patterned with orange and black bands. Two
further identification characters are the presence of
secondary black bands on the 3rd and 4th dorsal plates
and of faint greyish longitudinal stripes on the

The Marmalade fly can be found throughout the year in
various habitats, including urban gardens, visiting
flowers for pollen and nectar. They often form dense
migratory swarms, which may cause panic among people
for its resemblance to wasps. It is among the very few
species of flies capable of crushing pollen grains and
feeding on them. The larva is terrestrial and feeds on

As in most other hoverflies, males can be easily
identified by their holoptic eyes, i.e., left and
right compound eyes touching at the top of the head.

TFS My friend.

Hello Thorsten!

This is certainly a macro fly!

Excellent work my friend ... there are good settings, and your talent to select the correct optical parameters. I like the results you get with the fill-in flash.

I'm surprised the 1/80s exposure, has really made a very balanced picture with these settings.

Equilateral Good composition, placing the insect in a very good point.

Greetings, thanks for sharing, I hope you have a good weekend.

Hi Thorsten.
It is really excellent macro work. I like all components of photo skill. First of all it is very attractive POV and composition of the shot. Second is great sharpness and details. You managed to reflect and show tiniest sweet details as hair on the body and head and eyes pattern. I also like wonderful presentation of the flower and superb colourful smooth BG. Well done and kind regards.
P.S. I have not free time almost. However, sometimes I visit TN for watching only.

You DO work hard to share such beauties.
Thank you.
You are also a GREAT TEACHER!!! Thanks for teaching "me".
