Heh...you must have been surprised to fins such a bird in the pond :)
You might be right - maybe it got away from somewhere, but you did good to take some pictures...especially such a beautiful one as this one here :)
Probably one of the most beautiful of the duck species, the colors on this one are superbly reproduced here. I love the contrast here between the black patches in the plumage and those white stripes - they increase the attention for the photo.
The details are also pin-sharp and the composition is great - benefiting also from a nice reflection of the duck's head.

This is the best Wood Duck photo I've ever seen. To be able to see the reflection of the face, and still see the foot through the water is remarkable. The white border adds some serenity to the water which draws it into the whole picture. Great job!

Hi Thorsten

A "peaceful escapee"…sounds like a bit of a paradox. Aren't escapees normally very tense or rather apprehensive while continuously looking over their shoulders to see if the "long arm of the law" is busy catching up on them? Sounds like you need to inform the animal "polizei" and afterwards claim a fat reward. However, you need to be very discreet otherwise this dangerous felon might make a 'duck' in the 'wood' (chuckle).

I like the cropping, leaving excellent space for the duck to move into, showing the stunning reflection, and providing sufficient BG of the wavy water surface. The colours are natural, the lighting was well controlled, and the details are very clear and well defined.
