That's today's question: Who will eat whom???

David - the scorpionfly, (Panorpidae) male
Goliath - the Black-tailed Skimmer, (Orthetrum cancellatum) male.

Who will be the winner in natures everyday life?

Thanks for looking, bye.

Hello Sabine,
This is a marvellous capture of two forms of insect life together with great sharpness and detail. I like the way that the scorpion fly is desperately climbing on to the blade of grass over the dragon, as if it has just realised its mistake!
Well done and TFS!

Hi Sabine,

Outstanding details on both these beauties! superb colours, composition and tight PoV

Hello Sabine,
There will not be a winner in this case because they wont fight eachother, but will live together in peace :)
Great capture having these two very beautiful insects in the same frame.
Colors and details are most wonderful and sharpness is perfect.
Flash fired was a bit to harsh on the Scorpion Fly in my opinion and it would have been better to reduce the amount to 1/8th or even 1/16 of the full power range.
This does'nt effect the beauty of the image to much though and it still is a great joy to look as such original shot.
Thanks for sharing and the good note.
Best wishes to both of you,

Hi Wishnu,
Great portrait very interesting question,
color and sharpness perfect, good composition,
TFS. Best regards/Lawhill

Hi Sabine!

Superb catch! I love this kind of photos, not only with very good quality but also with lots of action. This time I think Goliath will be winner :-) It'll eat David in 0,5 sec :-)

Hi Sabine,
I think the DF will crush the SF and have a nice meal. Anyway in both terms no body is secured anything will happen. Very nice capture with a beautiful title. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Sabine,
Splendid close-up shot of these two with immaculate sharpness and details. Who won in this nature's game? A very poignant scene and one has to lose for someone to win always, terrible but true. I suppose this fight for survival in the main crank in the cycle of our very existence. Good use of flash lighting and the BG illustrates the habitat well. Excellent POV to portray this battle scene and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Sabine,
Your macro has excellent DOF (your trademark), clarity, color, contrast, sharpness, detail, and an interesting POV of the two..Great title also :)
Very well done!

Hi Sabine,

Great action shot
sharpness, details, colours, POV, DOF and lighting are Perfect

TFS Thijs

Wow you get some incredible detail in your macro shots!

Hi Sabine,
Since I have no knowledge on insects. I really wouldn't know who would win. I think I might need to read the threads to figure that one out. All I can say that this is a super sharp photo of a wonderful moment. The fact that you got this close is just marvelous.

Truly impressive. Great colors and definition.

Hola Wishnu,
Excelente toma con gran definición y detalle, de esta escena común, pero que muy difícil de ver. Saludos
José Ramón

Hi Sabine

What an amazing shot! I put money on the dragonfly winning this contest. Sharp focus across both insects, amazing details and an excellent use of light. Great subject with a perfect title. Stunning work as ever

I just read your answer to Lordpotty - I was wrong. I should learn never to bet :)

Hallo Sabine,
muss mal wieder kurz vorbei schauen, und der Besuch hat sich gelohnt. Super Macro mit herrlichen details die du uns wieder zeigst.

Scorpionflies are no hunters but eat fruits.
The dragonfly is a big predator but capture its preys in flight. He doesn't look in a hunting mood at the moment.

Nice macro shot.

Hello Sabine.

Excellent picure, nice composition and colors.
