Female Sichuan Takin (Budorcas taxicolor tibetana). The Berlin Tierpark is one of two keepers of this unique ungulate in Europe. Takins living in four subspecies in the open montane forests of the Eastern Himalayas of Myanmar, Bhutan, and China. Takins are related to sheep, and similar to the Musk-ox. The Takin, especially the Golden Takin may be the source and inspiration of the golden fleece in the Greek mythology, and is the national animal of Bhutan.
