Unfortunately, I accidentally inserted a low resolution copy of the large insert in the original picture. I exchanged it and the result is seen in the workshop!

The pictures show the life-cycle (eggs missing) of
- Harmonia axyridis
- family: Coccinellidae

Harmonia axyridis is not a European native but originates from East Asia. I described the whole story on this species in earlier postings to TN. Here I would like to focus on the life-cycle, only.

The upper row shows the larva at different stages. The larva on the picture in the middle is obviously the youngest, the one on the right is just close to pupation. To the right in the middle, the pupa is illustrated and below of it a newborn ladybird. I think it is not necessary to explain what we can see on the large picture. I wished that I could have completed the life-cycle story by presentation of the eggs. But I did not succeed in finding them.

All pictures:
- natural light
- handheld

I'll give details on the individual pictures later.

Hello Peter!
Very good idea to show life cycle of this ladybird :) On the other hand it is a pitty that there is no picture presenting eggs...
The DOF on some pictures are better and on some a little less, but generally composition looks very nice.
I also like your note, which is very interesting (by the way, it would be nice to include a link to your earlier picture where the story of this non-native species was described with details :>).
Anyway, this is a very good presentation! :)

Hello Peter,
What a brilliant presentation of this Asian ladybird's life cycle. All the individual shots are very sharp and the colours are beautiful. Very interesting!

Hi Peter.
Next your nice and deductive work with excellent reproduction of all specimens. I like the magnification ratio at every shot, your POV (different but always impressive), perfect illumination of shooting objects and creative compiling of all images into one collage. My best wishes and TFS.

Hello Peter,
Interesting post showing the different stages in the life cycle. Excellent work handheld with ambient light..As you say, the only thing missing are the eggs.
Very well done & Thank You!

Hello Peter,
This is an excellent collage showing most of the stages in the development of this Asian species of Ladybird. With the possible exception of the pairing stage, each shot is razor sharp, and every shot well composed, making a fine presentation.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Peter
a very didactic set of photos about ladybirds...and very good photos also with great light(natural) and sharpness(handheld)
TFS and best regards

Abend Peter,

Hi Peter

What a charming and beautiful presentation!
I really love to see these adorable ladybirds through their life cicle...wonderful work!
The details and colors are outstanding in all the frames and the way you assambled this one is also great.
I liked the noteon this one very much, too.

Hallo Peter,

Very nice shot Peter. Technically perfect picture. Very well done. TFS. Stev

HI Peter!
I love this one it's so educational and perfect, no coments just added it to my favorites!

bonjour peter
on dirait que ce n'est pas la même espece que celle que j'ai publié mais votres composition est bien realisée avec en prime la larve qui n'est pas tres gracieuses mais c'est interressant de la montrer.
bien fait;

Hello Peter,
Very, very good secuence showing the entire life cycle of this ladybug, introduced as well in Argentina. Curiously I´ve made a similar composition and posted some weeks ago! In my work only lacks the "sex scenes".

A great collage you have here Peter! You should be a patient observer. You know what! These days i'm thinking about that if being a good observer make the photography skills better or being a good photographer make the better observer! So i think these are feeding each other!
Have a nice night!

Hi Peter,
Technically, scientifically and aesthetically perfect.
TFS, José m.

Peter, Excellent collage. I love the way you have captured the entire lifecycle. I especially love the way you have captured the transformation from caterpillar stage to the adult.
