Hello friends, Luc´s red fox pictures inpired me to make good pictures about the red fox too. I miss his critiqies, suggestions and above all its marvelous photos.

Thank you Luc

Red Fox - Vulpes vulpes
- pictured in the wild (Arnsberger forrest) -

Characteristics
The red fox has orangish-red fur on its back, sides and head. It has white fur under its neck and on its chest. It has a long bushy tail tipped in white, pointed black ears and black legs and feet.

Range
The red fox can be found in most of the United States and Canada, except for the far north in Canada and Alaska and much of the western U.S. and Hawaii. The red fox can also be found in Europe and Asia and it has been introduced to Australia.

Habitat
The red fox makes its home in wooded areas, prairies and farmland.

Diet
The red fox eats a wide variety of foods. It is an omnivore and its diet includes fruits, berries and grasses. It also eats birds and small mammals like squirrels, rabbits and mice. A large part of the red fox's diet is made up invertebrates like crickets, caterpillars, grasshoppers, beetles and crayfish. The red fox will continue to hunt even when it is full. It stores extra food under leaves, snow or dirt.

Life Cycle
The red fox mates from January through March. The female will make one or more dens right after mating. The extra dens are used if the original den is disturbed. A little less than two months after mating, the female gives birth to a litter of between one and ten kits. The male brings the female food while she is caring for the kits. The kits start playing outside the den when they are about a month old. The mother begins feeding her kits regurgitated food, but eventually she will bring them live prey to "play" with and eat. Playing with live prey helps the young kits develop the skills they will need for hunting. The kits leave their mother when they are about seven months old.

Behavior
The red fox is mostly nocturnal, although it will sometimes venture out in the day. The red fox, unlike other mammals, hears low-frequency sounds very well. It can hear small animals digging underground and will frequently dig in the dirt or snow to catch prey. The fox stalks its prey, much like a cat. It gets as close as it can and then pounces and chases its prey.

Hi Heinz,

Well captured and a nice tribute to luc,the picture has good colors and details and is nicely cropped, well done and TFS

Paul

Nice work Heinz,

I'm impressed how close this fox seems to us, back home on the farm they run a mile when they see or smell humans - I have, however, noticed a difference with the foxes here in London, they're very bold indeed!

So, the image: it's fantastic! Nice natural light gives us true colour rendition in the coat and the sharpness of the shot even using the teleconverter has still resulted in a very detailed image.
I like that we can see his surroundings and habitat. I wonder what he's looking at?

Very well done.
Simon

Great portrait of this beautifull fox.
i love the soft light and the details on the eyes.

What a great picture of the fox, the colours are so vivid, you have managed to get so much detail in his fur. TFS.
Well done.
Kelly.

This picture of a red fox is as good as any by Luc, Heinz.
You might have taken this picture from a distance but the picture is so lively it appears as if you were standing next to the animal.
Great image.
TFS.

Hello Heinz,

What a lovely Res Fox, but a little bit dangerous around the farms!
Excellent pose and very lovely colours, good framed too!

Have a nice weekend,
John.

Hi Heinz,
Nice work getting a good photo of this animal. Profile photos such as this can be very effective. Good POV, colour and detail. I do find the photo a little dark and perhaps the subject is too centered but still a good image. Thank for sharing.

Carl

Hi Heinz,

Hello Heinz,
This is a fine capture in the wild of the Red Fox.
This is sharp with fine lighting and colours and shows the animal in a pleasing pose. His attention is obviously directed at something out of the picture.

Yes, I think of Luc every time I see a photo of a fox. I wonder how he is.
If you're reading this Luc, remember your old friend from NZ please. I still miss you...

Heinz, good pic of the red fox. He looks darker and brighter than Luc's Canadian fox. Nicely presented, thank you
Janice

Lovely picture. Very nice colors.
A little dark but still nice.
Nice one,
Steph
