After presenting the parasitic flowers growing under the Cistus, this is one of the pretty insects which can be found on this flowers. Here a colourful and joyful couple of glaphyrid beetles. I could not find the exact ID… because this family is not very easy and remains quite unknown in the entomologic publications (on internet).
By the way, I say goodbye to all of you, because I will be away for 2 weeks and I don’t know when I can get an internet connection! But I know one think, I will take a lot of photos!

Pygopleurus sp.
Family: Glaphyridae

Pygopleurus is a genus of the family Glaphyridae, which includes 6 genera and about 190 species in the Holoarctic region of which only one (Lichnanthe) in the Neoarctic region.
The genus Pygopleurus Mots. can be distinguish by the shape of scutellum, a elongate triangle with acute apex. It occurs in southern and eastern Europe (former Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey), Caucasus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Saudi.
49 distinct species have been described by J. Baraud.
A few external characters can be used for the systematic of the Pygopleurus. Only the unique shape of the male copulatory organs can distinguish each species.

Hello Cathy,
Nice macro of these two unusual-looking beetles in copulo.
The POV shows the colour difference between the the two, the female seeiming to be more attractive! Technically this is first class and the composition pleasing.
I wish you and Bayram a successful trip and I hope you come back with lots of fine pics!

Hola Catherine

"Guau" vaya imagen más buena, que colores, que nitidez que..... todo.

Me gusta mucho lo bien definido que estan estos insecto, a los que se les aprecias los pelos perfectamente, una macro excelente y colores fuera de serie.

posdata:

Gracias por tu comentario, ya Josep Ignasi, me había informado del nombre de Allium, y cuando tu me lo informastes, ya estaba cambiando los datos. Gracias nuevamente.

Un saludo Antonio

What an amazing pair of Beetles I have seen for the first time, Catherine!
The coloration on the thoraxes of both the male and the female of the species is so very subtle and beautiful.
The image is extremely sharp and well composed.
Wish you all the best in your altered surroundings.

Hi Catherine,
one of your expert shots of a lesser known creature. As usual with you, the technical aspects as well as the entomological aspects are taken care of very well. I was convinced that you were a trained entomologist until Anne told me otherwise. If I understand your correspondence correctly you will see Bayram (if its in Şanlı Urfa, don't miss Köbekli Tepe!). Please greet him from me and enjoy your stay. Tell us on TN what you found!
My best regards,Dietrich
