He, he I was wrong... It was not a a Ruddy Darter female, but a Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii).
This species is most similar to the Ruddy Darter but can be distinguished by the yellow wing veins (for the female), the pterostigma pale yellow with black border and and the underside of the eye blue/grey.
The legs of both sexes are mostly black with some yellow. On this specimen, the legs are all black except a little part of the interior of the forelegs. Thanks Hans for correcting the ID!

Sympetrum fonscolombii (Selys, 1840)
Family: Libellulidae

The red-veined darter is a dragonfly of the genus Sympetrum. It is a common species in southern Europe and from the 1990s onwards has increasingly been found in northwest Europe, including Britain and Ireland.
There is genetic and behavioural evidence that S. fonscolombii is not closely relate to the other members of the Sympetrum genus and will at some time in the future be removed from this genus.

Distribution: Occurs in much of central and southern Europe including most Mediterranean islands, in Africa, the Middle East and south-western Asia including India, Sri lanka, and Mongolia. In Europe it is resident in the south of its range but in some years it migrates northward and has been found as far north as Belgium, Sweden, Poland and northern England. It is the only libellulid to be found in the Azores and it is also found on the Canary islands and Madeira.

Hi MF Catherine,

I share with your opinion that this is female rudy darter since t has completely black legs.Perfectly composed and focussed shot in all around.

Hello Catherine.

A very nice picture with beautiful and nice corresponding colors.
Sharpness is perfect and with a nice classical POV.
Compliments and thanks for sharing.

I am not convinced that this is a ruddy darter. The colors of the veins in the wings are yellow and the lower part of the eye is blue. You do not see that at the ruddy darter.
I think it is a female Red veined darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii).
The legs of the Red veined darter are mostly black with a yellow stripe but sometimes they are totally black as you can see in your picture.

Gr. Hans
